National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) Secretary General Francis Mutuku disclosed the details behind Paul Tergat's France tour.

According to the letter dated January 2, it was indicated that NOC-K President Paul Tergat led a delegation from Kenya to Miramas City to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Team Kenya Pre-Games preparations for Paris 2024.

It was announced that the MOU signing would occur in Miramas on February 3, 2023.

The agreement will be between NOC-K and the Department of Bouches-du-Rhône, Miramas Metropole, and Miramas Athletics Club.

Kenyan athletes, including Commonwealth 100 metres champion Ferdinand Omanayala will participate at the World Athletics Indoor Meeting of Miramas at Stadium Miramas Métropole.

“The President is accompanied in the mission by NOC-K Secretary General, Francis Mutuku and NOC-K Treasurer, Eliud Kariuki and also joined by Kenya's Ambassador to France, Prof Judi Wakhungu.

“The embassy's role will be critical in providing support to the Kenyan delegation in the run-up to the Olympics,” part of the statement read.

NOC-K Executive had initiated discussions with Miramas in the City of Marseille, in early 2022, with the delegation from each party doing orientation visits.

The Miramas team visited Kenya in December 2022, to finalise the details of the MOU.

Details of the MOU will be released upon signing. However, NOC-K indicated that the primary objective of the partnership was to benefit individual athletes and teams in their preparation for the 2024 Olympics.

Kenyan athletes will have access to facilities and professionals from the local clubs in the South of France to help prepare for the Olympics.
