
The Kenya Rugby League Federation (KRLF) has announced the expansion of the league ahead of the 2023 season.
According to a statement released by the federation, a women's league has been included.
"Director of Development and Growth, John Mbai, is elated to announce that we are expanding our league.

"The league expands to include both a 2nd Men's Division, a Women's League, and age grade. Players and officials alike are amped to get into the 2023 season," part of the statement read.
In the previous seasons, the league only featured players from the men's first team.
The Kenya Rugby Premiership is expected to kick off on Saturday, March 18, and end on Wednesday, May 3.
Moreover, both the Women’s League and the Men’s Second division fixtures are slated to begin on the same date as the Premiership.
Rugby League, which was introduced to Kenya in 2013, is hugely different from the normal type of rugby that clubs like Menengai Oilers and Mwamba RFC take part in.
The difference between rugby league and rugby union is seen in terms of the number of players and awarding of points.
In rugby league, a drop goal is worth one point while in rugby union teams get 3 points.
In addition, teams are allowed to make 10 substitutions in Rugby League while in Rugby Union they are supposed to make a maximum of eight substitutions.
2022 was a historic year for the Kenya Rugby League players since they made their maiden appearance at an international competition.
They graced the Middle East Africa (MEA) Championship that was staged in Accra, Ghana between Tuesday, September 27 and Monday, October 2.
