Darlington Rotary Club is set to donate football jerseys to Kenya with plans to establish teams in Msambweni, Kwale county.
In celebrating 100 years of making a difference, one member of the club embarked on a journey to Kenya where they will not only distribute books but also football kits.
According to UK journalist Peter Barron, former president of Darlington Rotary Club, Peter Philips will be traveling with a bag full of jerseys.

“Today (February 8), the 80-year-old (Peter) will embark on his latest 16-hour flight to Msambweni around the same time as another two tons of books he’s collected leave the town en route to Kenya.
“But the mission isn't just restricted to books. Peter will also be taking a suitcase full of football strips to Kenya following an appeal by Darlington Football Club. Supporters were asked to dig out any unwanted strips so football teams can be formed in Msambweni,” part of the statement read.
The 80-year-old's first visit to Kenya was 25 years ago while on a working holiday with friends.
During that visit, he came across 100 children and three adults under a tree in Msambweni on a hot day.
Speaking to the Northern Echo, a UK Newspaper, Peter recalled that after some inquiry they were informed that a class was in session.
“We found out that the school had three ramshackle, prefabricated buildings that had been left behind by the Army and since they were in a pretty rough state, most of the lessons were held outside,” Peter stated.
The group made a return the following year later after raising money to buy bricks and cement to build new classrooms for the school.
According to Northern Echo, after his first visit, Peter went back to the institution twice a year, each time raising money for the construction of more classrooms and equipping them with desks.
Supporters were asked to dig out any unwanted strips so football teams can be formed in Msambweni.
Together with his wife, Peter successfully bought and ran the Morritt Arms hotel at Greta Bridge, UK, between 1994 and 2016.
