Referees officiating a Ghanian second tier match were severely beaten by angry fans on Sunday. Supporters of Wanamafo Mighty Royals attacked match officials who handled their Division One League match-week 14 game against Bofoakwa Tano on Sunday afternoon.
Referee Niatire Suntuo Aziz and his assistants Suleman Mohammed and Yakubu Abdul Rahman were beaten by the angry fans of the home side after the final whistle of the fixture.

According to reports, fans of the home side beat up the match officials after the game had ended in a 0-0 draw at the Wamanafo Park.

The aggrieved fans of Wamanfo Mighty Royals broke the main gate to attack the referees for what the fans perceived to be unfair officiating against their club.
It took the intervention of the overpowered police and security officials to rescue them from marauding fans. They were later escorted to safety after sustaining varying degrees of physical abuse and injuries.
While the Ghana Football Association (GFA) had earlier ordered all league matches to be played under closed doors, fans still found their way to the stadia.
