If you found out that Lionel Messi's transfer away from Barcelona was entirely interesting and completely unanticipated, well something much more will blow your mind. Apparently, a tissue used by the Argentine during the last emotional press conference at Barcelona is now being auctioned off. The famous tissue was believed to be picked up by someone in attendance who later put it up for sale on international auction site, Meikeduo, with the starting price up a ridiculous $1 million (Ksh 100M).
With the staggering price tag, the seller claimed the tissue contained Messi's "genetic material" ... and therefore could potentially be used to someday clone the soccer superstar. It was an emotional day when the Argentinian footballer came to say goodbye and broke down, his wife Antonella Roccuzzo had given him the tissue as he was bidding adieu to Barcelona after spending two decades of his life there.
Not only have his old jerseys from Barcelona and replicas of Copa America garnered a lot of attention, but also there has been a huge demand for his Paris Saint Germain (PSG) jersey as well. There have been images of huge queues outside the official premises of PSG, where fans were seen waiting several hours to wear the jersey number 30 and the name Messi written on the back. PSG sold 150,000 'Messi 30' shirts within seven minutes of the deal being announced. A total of 832,000 shirts went by the end of the day. To date, more than a million orders have been made in physical and online stores. This therefore marked the most attention grabbing transfer in all of football history.
