Simba Queens Impress in CECAFA Women's Champions League Qualifiers Opener

Simba Queens

Goals reigned supreme on the first day of the Qualifier Championships as Simba Queens proved to be too good for Burundi's PVP FC. Simba won 4 goals to 1 courtesy of Danai Bhobo, Flavine Musolo and Aisha Mnunka. The game began with PVP making impressive and relentless attacks giving the Queens a hard time, more so breaking into their half. First blood was soon drawn when Simba's Danai Bhobo scored a rather unusual free kick in the 2nd minute when the ball bounced and went over keeper Amissa Inarukundo.

Right before the half hour mark, Simba's Flavine Musolo made it 2-0 after breaking through PVP's defense and netting the ball. PVP would soon be on the comeback trail after the half hour break when Nasra Nahimana got awarded a penalty that penned the scores 2-1. Soon enough at the 84th minute, yet another penalty was awarded but this time to Simba Queens after a handball incident in the five yard box. Congolese Flavine Musolo who donned the no.17 jersey scored the penalty adding a brace to her already impressive performance in the opener match.

Aisha Mnunka who came in as a Substitute for Asha Djafari sealed the deal after a wonderful placed shot that saw the ball go right into the top corner of the net, setting the final scores at 4-1. "I wasn't impressed throughout the entire match but the most important thing is that we won and got the three points. We are psychologically preparing for the next match and we do know that it won't be easy moving forward but we do take learning points from our opener match and hope to improve and be better, " Said Simba's head coach Hababuu Ally in reference to how PVP kept pressure for most part of the game but simply couldn't capitalize on their chances.

Earlier on in the Day, Lady Dove of Uganda thumped Fad FC of Djibouti 5-0 making them top Group A with 3 points whereas Simba Queens comes in second.

Today's group B match ups see South Sudan’s Yei Joint Stars take on New Generations at the Nyayo National Stadium; 1p.m while the most awaited match, Vihiga Queens vs Ethiopia's CBE FC goes down at exactly 4p.m, same venue.
