Omanyala Beats Simbine but Finishes Fourth in Brussels

Kenyan 100m record holder Ferdinand Omanyala finished fourth on his Diamond League debut in Brussels, Belgium  on Friday 3 September 2021.

Omanyala clocked a time of 10.02 seconds as he finished behind the American trio of Fred  Kerley, Trayvon Bromell and Michael Norman who finished first, second and third respectively. 

Kerley won the race in 9.94 seconds with Bromell claiming second in 9.97 as Norman clocked a season-best time of 9.98 seconds for third place.

African record holder Akani Simbine was sixth in 10.18 seconds.

In the 800m, Olympic Games 800m silver medalist Ferguson Rotich continued with his fine form as he first in the two-lap race.

Rotich won the race in a time of 1:43.81 to become the only Kenyan winner in the meeting. Mary Moraa finished in the womens 800m 8th in 1:59.79 in a race won by  Jamaican Natoya Goule in 1:58.09.

World 5,000m Hellen Obiri (14:26.23), World 5,000m silver medallist, Margaret Chelimo (14:27.12), Lilian Kasait (14:30.32) and Eva Cherono (14:30.77) fell to Burundian Francine Niyonsaba (14:25.34)  in the 5,000m women race.

Netherland’s Sifan Hassan won the 1,500m title in 4:14.74 ahead of Ethiopia’s Axumawit Embaye in 4:21.08 as Linden Hall completed the podium timing 4:21.38.
