Cairo giants Al Ahly have decided to deduct the salaries of players and the coaching staff after losing the Egyptian Super Cup to Tala’a El-Gaish. The management has slashed about $19,000 (Ksh 312,000) from each first team player and members of the technical bench for losing the Egyptian showdown yesterday September 21st.
The Egyptian Giants have also deducted money from their Football Director and every member of staff at the club according to their salaries. Al-Ahly said in an official statement: “Based on the club’s constants, and in light of the great support that is provided to the first football team system to achieve the ambitions of Al-Ahly and its fans, Mahmoud Al-Khatib, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Supervisor of the Football Sector, decided to deduct 300,000 pounds from each player."
Al-Ahly lost on penalties to Tala’a Al-Jaish, who won the first title in its history, after the end of the original goalless draw. Goalkeepers Mohamed El-Shennawy and Mohamed Bassam were the main protagonists of the penalty shootouts as the the former saved two penalties and the latter three, therefore handing El-Gaish the historic win.
For Coach Pitso Mosimane, things are getting thicker since he has now lost two big trophies within a space of two months. "It was a very disappointing result ,it seems like it was not Al Ahly's day, some key players were not where they were supposed to be in terms of performance. Certain players did not perform well. I believe we were supposed to get good results. We were supposed to capitalize on our opportunity earlier on in the first half. I am not happy with the outcome. This is the result I was not hoping for. However, we will bounce back next time." Said Mosimane.
