Uganda Cranes goalkeeper and captain Dennis Masinde Onyango has retired from the national team with immediate effect.

The Mamelodi Sundowns FC keeper announced his retirement from international football after a 16 year spell with the Uganda national team.

Onyango who also featured for  SC Villa  announced this through his social media accounts thanking FUFA, his former clubs teammates, coaches, national team teammates and the fans for the support they gave him during the time he was donning the national team colours.

His retirement comes a day after Ugandan international vice captain Hassan Wasswa announced his retirement too after a 13 year stint at the national team also after managing 75 caps for Cranes.

"This letter represents my official notice of retirement from the Uganda National Football Team, The Cranes effective April 12th 2021.”
