FKF boss Nick Mwendwa openly confirmed that he is still interested in leading the football body and will still be running for the Federations top seat again after his current reign comes to an end in October 2024.
The FKF president is now into his second term as the head of the Federation and was elected last year October 17th in an election that consisted of 5 other contestants. Mwendwa emerged victorious after he gathered most votes having 77 votes out of 85 under his name.
With a couple of months into his second tenure the 42 year old has already expressed his intentions of holding to the seat for another more term after his current one expires in the next four years. As per the amended FKF Constitution Mwendwa has the right to vie for the top seat for two more terms making it a total of four terms.
Nick Mwendwa stated that he has been lucky to achieve a couple of things during his first term as the president of the federation where Kenya qualified for the African Cup Of Nations that were held in Egypt. Mwendwa narrated that in the first term it was difficult for him to attain all his goals and objectives that he had set before joining the office and believes that he only needs more time to drill in the objectives and thus seeking for one more term in the next elections.
Some of the goals by the current federation's president is for the Stars football team to qualify for the 2022 Qatar World Cup and the 2023 Women's world cup in Australia and New Zealand for the Harambee Starlets.
Mwendwa has not only set eyes on the FKF Presidency he has also had interests in vying for the Fifa Council post for the African Anglophone nations where he was among the contestants for the same seat in the last elections that were held in Morocco. He however withdrew from the race paving way for the Nigerian Football Federation president Melvin Amaju to claim the post.
In Mwendwa's pursuit for meeting his presidential goals Kenya's men's team Harambee Stars will be facing an uphill task this year in ensuring that they sail through to the world cup as the qualifiers are meant to take place in June where the Kenyans have been pooled alongside Mali and East African neighbours Uganda and Rwanda.
