Ikolomani member of parliament Hon. Benard Shinali has urged other similar-minded members of parliament to work together and come up with bills that can cushion protect former sports stars from living miserably after retiring from sports.

The honourable member of parliament decried the rising number of premature deaths and other social and mental sufferings that former players are going through across the country while struggling with life after their sporting career.

Speaking from Malinya village in Ikolomani constituency, Kakamega County during the burial of former AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia defender, Sebastian Andulu, the MP called upon both levels of governments to consider putting in place laws that will cushion the former stars who played at the national level and help them better their lives after bringing joy and pride to the nation.

It is indeed sad and discouraging to see players live in a sorry state even after being celebrated while at their prime levels and representing the country and after their career ends all is forgotten and they are doomed to make ends meet.

Many of the celebrated stars in the country are suffering as they have no investments made and some are even suffering from long term injuries acquired from their playing era and have no one to take care of them. Some have no jobs and are forced to live under poor conditions.

Due to this nature of events that have poorly turned out to sports stars in the past such as Conjestina Achieng a boxing icon in the early 2000's who has been on the limelight of living under poor conditions the Honourable Member of Ikolomani has asked his fellow lawmakers to join him in the campaign of formulating a bill that would see these sports stars lead a happy life without struggling even after putting the country on the global map in sporting activities.

His sentiments were echoed by AFC Leopards Chairman Dan Shikanda who even urged the county government of Kakamega to support the family of the former soccer star stating that his death was a big blow to the entire Kenyan football community.
