Record Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia are having a torrid season, from being eliminated from being from all Confederation of Africa (CAF) Club competitions to getting whipped in the league, they had to seek divine intervention.
While on a brief tour of the Nyanza region at the beginning of the month, Gor Mahia players and officials visited the shrine of the famous legendary ‘prophet’ Gor Makogalo, son of a paramount chief in the Luo chiefdom.
He might have died slightly 98 years ago but the club which was named after him have always turned to him whenever they want good fortunes to come their way.
According to K’Ogalo ardent supporters, this ritual helps them cleanse all the bad deeds and get blessings ahead of every hard season that is before them.

Located in Kanyamwa location, Ndhiwa constituency, Homabay county, the shrine is a common place for many people from the community who want to have a good charm and luck.
Unlike the Gor Mahia team itself, prominent politicians often flock Gor Makogalo’s shrine to get blessings.
History has it that the team visited the shrine in 1987 enroute to winning the prestigious Mandela Cup. Most recently, former coach Hassan Oktay and the rest of the team visited the shrine, they later on went to win the 2019 league title.
