The award was presented to him by Fabrizio Romano, one of the renowned journalists in football news.

Eto’o announced the award through his twitter account where he was thankful to the organizers for the recognition.

“Thank you to everyone at @WebSummit. I hope to continue changing the lives of young people in Cameroon and across Africa” his tweet read.

Eto’o, who is a three-time Champions League winner and Olympic gold medallist, received the award for his work on and off the pitch.

“It’s a great privilege for me to accept this award from Web Summit, honouring my career and my work over the past 15 years with the Samuel Eto’o Foundation. I’m passionate about serving my country, and hope to continue inspiring young people across Africa to pursue their dreams,” Eto’o stated while receiving the award.

His foundation, known as Samuel Eto’o Foundation, operates mainly in West Africa where they prioritize the protection of youth through emergency aid, education, healthcare, and social inclusion initiatives centred on sport.

"As an African player, as many others, I had a difficult childhood. My parents gave me a lot, more than they had to, to support me. Through my foundation, I'm trying to help other parents and children to reach their dreams and be proud of their country." Eto’o stated.

Fabrizio on his part praised the African star describing him as a humble person and a football legend.
