Rt Hon. Raila Odinga was in Kitale yesterday November 20th and football fans did not hesitate to make him aware of Wisdom Naya's situation.
The renowned politician donated Ksh 500,000 with Saboti member of parliament Caleb Amisi giving Ksh 100,000.
According to the diagnosis, Nayah is suffering from a thigh tumour known as Soft Tissue Sarcoma which is a rare type of cancer that begins in the tissues that connect, support and surround other body structures.
His father Edward Onyango says his son had a promising future following his successful signing with Sofapaka that won the 2008/2009 Kenya Premier League title. "As a parent, I had seen him exploiting his talent very well that's why I set him free to pursue his talent. I knew he would help us a lot through his talent," said Onyango.
The 18-year-old midfielder joined Sofapaka in the 2019 January transfer window after signing a three-year contract that saw him play a number of games for the club before Kenya's tier one league was suspended due to COVID-19.
It is during this time that Nayah noticed all was not well while training alone due to covid-19 restrictions. And after a series of tests, it was revealed that he was suffering from Sarcoma, a rare type of cancer.
Dinna Cherop echoed Onyango's sentiments saying that her son's medical expenses were draining to the family and was hopeful well-wishers would chip in and help lighten their burden. "We have gone for a number of chemotherapy sessions before further surgery is done. Doctors at Mediheal Hospital have recommended amputation among top options though we haven't reached the decision," said Cherop.
The family has revealed that should everything go well they will be looking for further treatment in India. "One chemotherapy course has been costing us KSh 55k, and we have done about five of them. It's already hard for us to cater for our son's medical bills," Cherop added. The former St. Anthony Boys midfielder is hoping well-wishers will help him raise KSh 2.5 million to enable him to travel to India for medication.
