The Kenya sevens teams, both Shujaa and Lionesses,on Wednesday set up for a bubble model training camp at Kasarani in preparation for the Tokyo 2022 Olympic games in July.

The Olympic bound teams were set up for the bubble model training camp after the Ministry of Sports in conjunction with the Ministry of Health embraced the system that would help national teams in preparation of the international task ahead in July. The model was also embraced to ensure a Coronavirus free environment for the players during their high intensity training sessions.

The team has camped at Moi Stadium, Kasarani where they will train for the next two and half weeks before departing for an invitational tournament in South Africa, where they will be up against hosts South Africa (two teams), Zimbabwe and Uganda.

After the Los Angeles tournament, the final 12-man team will be named and will then head to Kurume City, Japan for a two-week training camp before joining the rest of the Kenyan contingent in Tokyo for the Olympics, which start on July 23.

Both teams are seeking to improve on their game plays from various set pieces as minor mistakes cost them victories in the last two outings in Madrid and Dubai Invitational sevens.

However, the Shujaa are set to miss out on the services of playmaker Sammy Oliech who was ruled out of the Tokyo Olympic Games with an Achilles injury that he sustained during the Emirates Invitational tournament held in Dubai earlier this month.

The Impala utility back, who recently rejoined the team, is set to sit out the remainder of the year as he recovers from the injury and the earliest he can start training, if all goes well, is in January next year.

Despite the team missing out on the services of their key player they still are focused to put up a performance at the olympics show. The teams are also expected to use the two remaining tours before the summer games to gauge themselves on their performance in the main event in Tokyo.
