Tusker FC head coach, Robert Matano, has named his side's goalkeeper, Patrick Matasi, as his new captain.
Matasi has been handed the Tusker FC armband, inheriting it from Eugene Asike ahead of their clash against Kakamega Homeboyz on December 23.
The Brewers goalkeeper rejoined the team in the off-season transfer window from Ethiopian giants St.George to boost their goalkeeping department.
Matano announced the change in captaincy adding that the former captain Asike relinquished the band in good faith.
“Anybody can be a leader and I thank the coach for bestowing on me that responsibility to lead the team. Eugene gave me the armband with one heart and we pushed the team together.
“I am also delighted for the second consecutive clean sheet and this builds confidence moving forward. I am even more delighted that as a team we won,” Matasi stated.
Asike only played two league games this season, keeping consecutive clean sheets against Nzoia Sugar and Sofapaka.
Matasi was keen to give his thoughts on their Thursday clash against Kakamega Homeboyz, who are enjoying an unbeaten run in the league having edged Gor Mahia last time out.
“They have had their good run so far and we respect them. We have also managed to rise from our lows and I think now it is just a matter of playing our hearts out, playing compactly as a team and everyone in the team giving 100 percent.
It was all about teamwork and everyone fought. It was not easy but the most important thing for us was to get a win and put behind that poor run. Now that gives us a lot of confidence. A win especially after a bad run gives the team confidence,” Matasi noted.
