Former Kenya Sevens rugby player Alex Olaba was arrested on Thursday night over claims of attempting murder of a key witness in a rape case he is facing alongside Frank Wanyama.

Olaba was nabbed at Madaraka Estate in Nairobi by undercover detectives on the night he was planning the said murder. Police sources  say Olaba had approached another party seeking ways of eliminating the witness in the case before police were informed. The approached party was apparently an undercover officer according to the Police

Olaba was then arraigned before a Nairobi Court on Friday with police seeking 10 days to detain him and conclude investigations.

Two of his mobile phones are set to undergo forensic analysis, as detectives seek to unravel the extent of his plans and whether he had sought help from any other person.

Olaba and Wanyama were released on a cash bail of Sh300,000 by Milimani Law Court magistrate Zainab Abdul after they pleaded not guilty to charges of gang rape and committing an indecent act.
