Why Eliud Kipchoge Lives in a Dormitory Despite Millions in Account

The 2020 Olympic marathon winner and celebrated athlete, Eliud Kipchoge lives a simple life, in the remote Kenyan village of Kaptagat, in Uasin Gishu County, where he is free from any distractions. 

Kipchoge stays at a camp with two dormitories together with up to 30 athletes. Outside the dormitories lies rows of Ksh30,877 (£200) Nike Vaporfly shoes.

Surprisingly Kipchoge chooses to spend weeks in his basic room in the dormitories despite having his family home close by the camp.

Also at the camp is a chef who prepares the meals for the athletes. The kitchen space is just basic, having one cooking stove with two hobs. 

Dinner is always serve at 7:30 pm at a simple dining area which has a poster on the wall with the quote,‘The journey of a thousand miles begins withThe two dormitories are separated with one for the male athletes and the other for their female counterparts, however while the rest share rooms Eliud has his own. one step.

The 37 year old marathoner follows his weekly training routine religiously as he trains from Monday to Saturday every week.  

"Our life here is simple, very simple.Get up in the morning, go for a run, come back. If it is a day for cleaning, we do the cleaning, or we just relax. Then go for lunch, massage, the four o'clock run, evening tea, relax, go to sleep. As simple as that," Kipchoge noted earlier. 

The camp, located 8,000 feet above sea level in Kaptagat near Eldoret twon, has performance benefits because of the altitude.

When the camp was set up by Sang back in 2002 it was meant to help junior and upcoming athletes have a base to train however it has becomes home for Kipchoge, the world's finest marathoner.
