Barcelona midfielder Gavi (Pablo Martín Páez Gavira) registered one assist in their February 20 match against Valencia where striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a hattrick.

Barcelona won the match by a 4-1 margin. Gavi, the 17-year-old midfielder, played the entire match with his boot laces untied.

After the match, Barcelona took to their social media to laud Gavi's abilities noting that he can make assists with his shoes untied.

The 17-year-old midfielder appears unfettered by playing the matches with his new style.

Some pundits and fans claimed that the youngster's preference was a pre-match ritual.

However Barcelona Head Coach, Xavi noted that the Spanish midfielder has maintained his playing style since he was a child.

"Gavi has been playing with his laces untied since he was very young, it’s because he doesn’t know how to tie them well. He doesn’t care and he plays like that,” Xavi stated in a past interview.

Football fans weighed in on the conversation with some praising the protege who is one of Barcelona's shining light.

“Gavi can do everything on the pitch than tie his shoe,” a fan commented

“How old is that boy once again,” another comment read.

Some are also likening his playing style from that of football legend Diego Maradona who used to train with his laces untied.

Gavi was also teased by his Barcelona teammates for his inability to tie shoe laces.
