Roman Abramovich has announced his intention to sell Chelsea football club. The Russian billionaire has been the owner of the club since 2003.
He made clear his intention to sell the club through its official website on Wednesday, March 1, 2022.
“I hope that I will be able to visit Stamford Bridge one last time to say goodbye to all of you in person. It has been a privilege of a lifetime to be part of Chelsea FC and I am proud of all our joint achievements. Chelsea Football Club and its supporters will always be in my heart," read his statement in part.
Under his ownership, Chelsea won five Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues, five FA Cups, three League Cups, and two Europa Leagues and One Club World Cup trophy.
In the 19-year period, the Stamford Bridge-based club spent over £2 billion (approximately Ksh304 billion) on players.
