Mercy Wanyama is a basketballer born to Noah Wanyama and Mildred Wanyama in Muthurwa area of Nairobi. The 30-year-old is the younger sister of Kenya's celebrated soccer stars Victor Wanyama and McDonald Mariga.
She attended St. Peter's Flavors primary school then Shiners high school before being transferred to Lang'ata high school. All through her schooling, she took an active part in school games and featured for the school team.
The basketballer who gained interest in sports from her parents and elder brothers believes her biggest intrigue in becoming a player is because she comes from a sporting family.
"My height counts yes but I would say it's in the DNA. If you have a mother and a father who are players then it's in the DNA. It is in the system," said Mercy.

She attributes part of her success to her brothers Victor and Mariga whom she says really helped her advance her skills in the sport. She notes that they helped her adjust and finally decided to hit the gym.
"They started watching my games and said I wasn't ready. They encouraged me to hit the gym and improve then finally acknowledged my readiness and connected me," She added
