Real Madrid Makes Historic Donation to Ukraine

Spanish league giants Real Madrid on March 16, announced that they will be donating Ksh125 million (€1 million). 

According to the Meringues, the donation is through the Real Madrid Foundation, in collaboration with a campaign dubbed "Everyone with Ukraine" that was rolled out on March 5. 

The donation also seeks to provide the much-needed support to the people of Ukraine who have been displaced from their country due to the ongoing war.

In their announcement, they announced that they would be working together with non-governmental organisations like the Red Cross and the UNHCR.  

“In Spain, the Real Madrid Foundation has donated a convoy of more than 13,000 garments of warm and sports clothing for the primary care of refugees who arrive from Ukraine and are cared for by CESAL. 

In Spain, the Red Cross attends in its primary care centres the first refugees to arrive from Ukraine for whom the Real Madrid Foundation has donated sports and recreational equipment for minors,” part of the club statement read. 

Other top clubs like Italian heavyweights Juventus expressed their sympathies with Ukraine after they sent buses to pick some of the displaced people at the Hungarian border. 

The buses donated by Juventus also delivered essentials including food, clothing and medicine to the victims of war. 

Another Italian club that has come to the aid of those displaced by the war is AC Milan who raised Ksh7.5 million (€60,000). 

As for the Premier League after deliberations by all 20 clubs to cancel its broadcast contract with a Russian broadcast company it was agreed that they would donate a total sum of  Ksh149 million (£1m) to alleviate those affected by the war.
