On Friday, March 18, the Champions League draw for the 2021/2022 quarterfinals was released, with the current title holders Chelsea set to play against Real Madrid.

Manchester City vs Atletico Madrid 

Spanish side Atlético Madrid will be the first side to face both Manchester United and Manchester City in the knockout stages of a European competition in a season.

The last team to do so was Juventus in the 1976/77 UEFA Cup, and went ahead to win the competition.

Villareal vs Bayern Munich

Bayern and Villarreal have only faced each other in the Champions League twice and that was in the group stages of the 2011/12 season. 

Bayern have come out on top on both occasions, winning 2-0 in Spain and 3-1 in Germany.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid 

Another big match will be between the current Champions League title holders, Chelsea, and Spanish giants, Real Madrid.

In this fixture, Chelsea are unbeaten in their five encounters with Real Madrid, winning three games and drawing two.

Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel, has not lost any of his six Champions League matches against Real Madrid, having won 2 and drawn four.

Benfica vs Liverpool

Liverpool will face Portuguese side Benfica with both sides having played against each other on eight occasions in the European Cup and Champions League.

Liverpool has won five while Benfica has won three. There has been no draw in all their encounters.

The first leg matches will be played on April 5 and April 6, with second legs scheduled for April 11 and 12.

Also the semi final draw was released with the winner between Chelsea and Real Madrid facing the winner between Manchester City and Atletico Madrid.

The second semi final match will be between the winner of the Liverpool and Benfica match and Bayern and Villareal

This season's final takes place at the Stade de France in Paris on May 28.
