Four Kenyans have been inducted into the Guinness Book of Records and are awaiting official certification.
The four achieved the highest altitude on Mount Kilimanjaro of 5.984 meters or 19337 ft on 1st January 2022.
Huzaifa Hassanati, Hakim Kaka, Burhanuddin Hurtara, and Hamza Ebrahimji have dubbed themselves “Strike Team Alpha” and broke a record that was achieved by a Canadian team in 2014.
The team was formed a decade ago and they have been practicing to set a world record.
They gave their take on their journey to getting into the Guinness Book of Records.

“As a group, we are feeling happy that this is something that we managed to accomplish to break the world record,” Hassanati stated.
“We came up with the idea of climbing Mt Kilimanjaro and saying we can do it. I had already climbed it twice so it was technically possible,” Kaka remarked.
“The challenge of breaking the record was even bigger because the guidelines and evidence that Guinness gave were not easy. Since we could not get someone from Guinness to witness the event, the evidence had to be very substantia,”Hurtara elaborated.
The Guinness book of record mandates a cover letter, two witness accounts, photographic evidence, and video evidence for all Guinness World Record titles.
“All of this wouldn't have been possible without the guideline of the leader of our community,” Ebrahimji remarked.
