Big Names Missing in Kenya Rally Second Leg Action

The African Rally Championship kicked off on Saturday, April 2, evening at the Ndulele Conservancy off Moi Lake Round.

The spectators had been designated seven positions where they could watch the rally and support their drivers.

The defending rally champion, Carl Tundo, however will not participate in the rally as he did not submit his entry.

Carl Tundo became the fifth Kenyan to win the African Rally Championship (ARC) after giving the country a sixth title in the Africa Rally Championship.

The ARC champions before Carl Tundo were David horsey in 1984, Jaspreet Chatthe in 2015, Don smith in 2016, Manvir Bryan in 2017,2018, and 2019.

Baldev ‘Singh’ Chager will also miss the contest despite his performance in the East African Safari Classic Rally (EASCR) held in February.

Other known drivers participated in the rally such as the legendary Ian Duncan who was navigated by Tej Sehmi. Duncan had missed the East African Safari Classic Rally (EASCR).

Leroy Gomes and Urshilla, a Zambian couple, are leading the African Rally Championship (ARC) standings after winning in the Bandana Rally which was the opening leg of the continental rally series.

The all-lady crew that bagged the inaugural Lioness Rally in Kasarani last week will be participating. Maxine Wahome and her navigator Safina  Khan will hope to achieve similar performance in their previous rally.

The first Kenyan to participate in the  World Rally Championship in Sweden, McRae Kimathi was in the rally and was also hoping for a stellar performance.
