Formula One has in the recent past grown in popularity among Africans despite the continent not hosting the competitions.
In March 2022, F1 CEO, Stefano Domenicali, expressed desire to have a Grand Prix take place in Africa.
In Africa, there are only two potential race circuits: one in South Africa and the other one in Morocco. However, the must be upgraded to FIA Grade 1 status in order to host the competitions.

The Circuit International Automobile Moulay El Hassan
The circuit is named after the Crown Prince of Morocco and hosted the first formula race, the 1925 Casablanca Grand Prix.
Initially a fast and furious temporary street circuit, part of it was converted into a permanent facility with the area around the pits and paddock now a self-contained circuit.
It has hosted the FIA WTCC/WTCR since 2009 and the Auto GP Championship from 2012 to 2014.
The race track for the first time ever also hosted the FIA Formula E World Championship in November 2016.
The circuit is now described as a semi-permanent FIA Grade 2 track with a capacity of 10,000 spectators.
Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit
The circuit was built in 1961 and hosted its first Formula 1 World Championship in 1967 with over 15 races taking place until 1985.
The track was upgraded with a new revised layout being constructed in 1991. Later after completion, the track hosted Grand Prix races in 1992 and 1993.
The track started losing its international standards resulting in it being put up for suction with its last motorsport event being the A1GP in 2010.
Toby Venter, a motor business entrepreneur and successful race driver, was the man behind the successful final bid to rescue the circuit.
The circuit was upgraded to a new 4.522km Grand Prix circuit and was certified by the Federation International de l'Automobile (FIA) as a Grade 2 race track.
The South African racing track is the only current motor racing facility on the African continent with such a prestigious accreditation.
