Burnley has sacked Sean Dyche as the club's head coach amid a relegation struggle.

Dyche has been at Burnley since 2012, leading the Clarets to two promotions to the Premier League and has been the league's longest-reigning manager.

The 50-year-old leaves Burnley battling for a Premier League survival as they are 18th in the league, four points behind Everton, with eight games left for the season to conclude.

“Burnley Football Club can confirm the Club has parted company with manager Sean Dyche, assistant manager Ian Woan, first-team coach Steve Stone and goalkeeping coach Billy Mercer,” part of the club statement read.

Burnely will now be coached by the Under-23s coach, Mike Jackson. He takes the role of interim manager and will be assisted by the team's captain, Ben Mee, Paul Jenkins, the academy director, and under-23s goalkeeping coach, Connor King.

The club's Chairman, Alan Pace, praised the exiting manager and his backroom staff for their achievements at the club in the last decade.

“During his time at Turf Moor, Sean has been a credit both on and off the pitch, respected by players, staff, supporters, and the wider football community,” part of the chairman's statement read.

Alan Palace noted that the decision to fire the entire backroom staff was to bring change in how the team plays amid the relegation battle.

“However, results this season have been disappointing and, while this was an incredibly difficult decision, with eight crucial games of the campaign remaining, we feel a change is needed to give the squad the best possible chance of retaining its Premier League status.

“The process of replacing Sean has begun and further announcements will be made to supporters in due course,” his statement read.
