
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League leaders Tusker FC have named former player George Maina as the new assistant coach.
Maina takes over from Charles Okere who was named Harambee Starlets' head coach a month ago.
The former skipper returns to the Brewers after seven years to deputize Robert Matano.
“Following the appointment of Charles Okere by the FKF as the new Starlets head coach, the club has moved to appoint a new assistant coach who will fill his void,” read a statement on the team's official website.
“Maina’s appointment commences with immediate effect.”
Maina was previously the head coach at National Division One side, Naivas.
“Tusker is like home to me because I have been here for many years as a player and as a coach. I am glad to be back.”
Maina revealed the prospects of working with Matano made make a quick decision and return “home”.

“When coach Matano asked whether I could come work with him, I couldn’t say no. I have worked with him before; he has coached me as a player and he is a person I hugely respect,” said Maina.
Coach Matano confirmed he had approached Maina to consider taking up the role soon after Okere's departure.
“We have worked together for a long time and when the opportunity arose to have him back, I did not hesitate to ask him whether he could come. We continue the work and hopefully we win more trophies together,” said Matano
