Zamalek SC President, Mortada Mansour, has been sentenced to two years imprison following a court ruling for insulting Al Ahly President, Mahmoud El-Khatib.

This comes after Al Ahly boss filed two defamation cases against Mansour for his comments back in 2021.

According to a statement by Al Ahly dated Wednesday, April 17, the Zamalek president had publicly slandered El-Khatib through the media.

“The Economic Court decided to sentence Mortada Mansour to two years in prison for the two cases brought by Mahmoud El-Khatib who was publicly slandered by the former through the media.

“The court today ruled to imprison the defendant for one year in each case, fine him Ksh 62,627(EGP 10,000) and another Ksh62,627(EGP 10,000) as a temporary compensation for El-Khatib,” the statement read.

Both presidents have had a tense relationship in the past with El-Khatib previously claiming that Mansour was taking advantage of his parliamentary immunity. However, Mansour went on to lose the Parliamentary elections in 2020.

In 2022, the former Egyptian Member of Parliament was re-elected as Zamalek president for the third consecutive term.

Before his re-election, Mansour and his board had been suspended from their positions after some financial breaches were found in the club’s accounting records.

In 2018, Mansour faced another huddle as The Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) disciplinary jury, banned him for one year and fined him Ksh4.6 million (USD40,000) for insulting the CAF’s president.
