Steven Gerrard claimed his goalkeeper, Robin Olsen, was attacked by Manchester City fans who stormed the Eithad Stadium pitch to celebrate their 3-2 win over Aston Villa on Sunday, May 22.

As the celebration went on things seemed to have gotten out of hand as Aston Villa keeper Robin Olsen was reportedly assaulted by City fans.

The Steven Gerrard-led team has confirmed that their goalie sustained a bang on the back of his head.

Villa released a statement on the matter stating that Olsen is 'very fine' though they were not sure if the incident was deliberate or accidental.

Gerrard has confirmed that they are not going to lodge a complaint terming the matter as closed.

On their side, 2021/22 Premier League winners acknowledged that Aston Villa's keeper was assaulted by its fans after they stormed into the pitch to cheer their premier league title win.

Pep Guardiola-led team has issued an apology and promised to look into the matter and hold whoever committed to account.

"Manchester City would like to sincerely apologize to Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen, who was assaulted after the final whistle at today’s match when fans entered the pitch" read the statement.

"The Club has launched an immediate investigation and once identified, the individual responsible will be issued with an indefinite stadium ban" concluded City's statement.

Robin Olsen was making his debut at Villa replacing Argentine Emiliano Martinez. The 32-year-old Swedish international was honored to play goalkeeper in the crucial game.

Manchester City scored three goals in five minutes in a dramatic comeback to beat Villa and defend the title.
