Greek-based Kenyan international, Esse Akida, won the golden boot award in the women's league which ended on May 29.

Akid scored 18 goals in 21 matches for her club, AC PAOK.

Despite an injury midway through the season, Akida also helped her side win the Greece Women Premier League title in her debut season.

The 29-year-old Kenyan felt she could have scored more goals were it not for the injury which hampered her progress, alongside being played outside her striking position.

"The regular season ended yesterday with a win and I couldn't thank God enough for how the year progressed.

"I still managed to score 18 goals, finished the season unbeaten, and won the title in my first attempt despite the injury," stated Akida

Akida will now feature in the Champions League which she is hopeful of winning while defending their league title.

"I am glad that we will have Champions League football back in our camp.

“I want to be a regular in the Champions League. It’s one competition I yearn for. We participated in it last season but were eliminated earlier. My aim is that we make it to the group stage this time around and I believe it’s something that’s achievable,” she added.

Akida also encouraged young Kenyan girls who are hopeful of being superstars to push on despite the woes facing Kenyan football.

FIFA banned Kenya from international matches for interfering with the Football Kenya Federation.

"This title is for the young girls trying to break barriers. I pray that the impasse in Kenya is solved so that you all can achieve your dreams" she stated.

Akida will return to Kenya for the holidays before embarking on preparations for the next season.
