General Service Unit (GSU) captain Nicholas Lagat has revealed how the Ruaraka-based side made it to the national volleyball play-offs scheduled to take place later this month at the Nyayo Stadium.
GSU qualified for the national play-offs thanks to 3-0 hammering of their perennial rivals Kenya Prisons over the weekend.
The National Police Service side won the match in straight sets of (25-23, 25-18, 25-16) to finish the league tied at the top of the log with Mombasa-based side Kenya Ports Authority (KPA). The two teams each amassed 40 points.

Lagat revealed that they started the season slowly but eventually picked up the rhythm as the league approached its end.
“We started a bit slow but soon our rhythm came together and I am happy we won and qualified for playoffs,” Lagat told People Daily.
He also narrated how the morale of his teammates was instrumental in their title chase. The experienced player said that the high morale in the camp came in handy particularly at times when things were not going well for them.
“It is not done yet, next week we have another crucial assignment against three other strong sides. We will work hard to defend our title. I can say this season, the morale of the players has been up even though the competition was evidently stronger,” added Lagat.
GSU who are the reigning national play-offs champions will have to overcome debutants Trail Blazers, KPA, and Kenya Prisons in order to retain their title.
GSU tactician David Kirwa has acknowledged that the play-offs will not be easy considering the type of opponents that they will be facing.
“It is a good feeling to go into the playoffs in a good way but will we know that it will not be easy. However, despite the stiff competition, we are ready to face our rivals. As the defending champions our priority is to fight and keep the trophy on our shelf,” added Kirwa.
