Reigning Kenya Premier League (KPL) champions, Tusker FC, have announced the departure of no-nonsense defender, Christopher Oruchum, following the expiry of his contract.

The Chavakali High School alumni signed for the Brewers two years ago and has been reliable since then. He played a crucial role in Tusker FC’s KPL triumph last season.

The club announced the news on social media, wishing Oruchum all the best in his future endeavors.

“Tusker FC defender Chris Oruchum has left the club upon the expiry of his contract and is off to seek a new challenge. The defender arrived at Tusker at the beginning of the 2020-21 season and has successfully won back-to-back titles.

“Last season, ‘The Professor’ was one of the strongest pillars of the team, having featured in 31 matches and kept 19 clean sheets. From Tusker FC, we wish the Professor all the best with his new challenge,” read the club’s statement.

Oruchum’s eye-catching displays while at Thika United a few years ago saw him included in the Kenya Premier League squad that played Hull City in a friendly match organized by a local betting firm in 2017.

Oruchum was among the 2014 Chavakali High School students whose results were canceled by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) following irregularities. This did not, however, make him give up as he went back to school and did well in his examinations.

His brilliant results saw him get a spot at the University of Nairobi where he pursued a business related degree. Oruchum is currently a certified financial analyst.

The powerful defender - who has previously featured for Thika United - wrote a farewell message thanking the Tusker family for the support during his two years spell.

“I want to say a big thank you to the Tusker family, management, fellow players, technical bench and the fans for their support for the two years that I have been at the club.

"I have enjoyed tremendous growth with the challenges to perform well at the high level. I have won the league back to back which is really something amazing. Two league titles, one charity cup trophy and three medals on, I can say I have had the best time at Tusker FC. I am off to a new challenge and I will leave with my head held high,” stated Oruchum.
