IF Elfsborg and Harambee Stars Center back Joseph Okumu has been ruled out of action for at least two weeks after getting an injury in a league match against AIK in the Swedish Premier League on May 2.

The towering defender was seen limping off the swedish fixture in the final minutes of the game as Elfsborg went ahead thrashing AIK 1-0 in their away league match against AIK.

The Swedish club through their team doctor Matilda Lundblad provided an update on the club’s official website, stating Okumu and Rasmus Alm both had to leave the field during Sunday's match due to injuries.

“Joseph Okumu has a small injury in the membrane around the calf muscle. He is expected to be partially available for games in just over two weeks,” the team doctor confirmed.

The dependable Harambee Stars Centre back has been prone to injuries in the recent past with the latest one ruling him out of the AFCON qualifiers squad that clashed against Egypt at Kasarani Nairobi and the squad that made a trip over to Togo in their final Group stage fixture.

Despite the injuries the 23 year old defender has risen above the challenges and has been able to put up a solid performance for his Swedish based club IF Elfsborg.

Okumu joined the club back in 2019 from American side Real Monarchs and has been a solid add-on to the Swedish side line of defence.

His high performance at the club has attracted many foreign clubs into chasing for the Kenyan international signature. With just over one year left on his three-year contract that expires on July 15, 2022, Okumu is said to be staring at offers from Scottish giants Rangers, Serie 'A' side Napoli, and Spanish side Valencia.
