Kenyan international Joash Onyango is frustrated by lack of playtime at his Tanzanian club Simba where he has been reduced to a fringe player.

According to MwanaSpoti, the 29-year-old refused to travel with Simba to Sudan where Wekundu wa Msimbazi are set to play two friendly matches against Ghanaian side Asante Kotoko and Al Hilal in preparation for their CAF Champions League assignments.

The Harambee Stars defender has been sidelined by Serbian coach Zoran Minojlovic in recent matches, casting doubt on his future with the club despite having recently signed a two-year contract extension.

The arrival of Mohamed Outtara from Al Hilal has pushed Onyango out of the starting line-up with Minojlovic preferring to partner the Ivorian with Henock Onanga at center back.

Simba spokesperson Ahmed Ally recently announced that the no-nonsense defender had signed a new contract at the club.

"On Onyango, Kenyans should not be worried because we have finalized and finished everything concerning his contract. He will be a Simba player for the next two seasons.

“Since he joined the team, Onyango has played an integral part of our team and we hope his stay will see us still win more trophies,” Ally was quoted by Nation on June 21.

Simba will play South Sudan’s Zalan FC in a CAF champions league preliminary round encounter on September 10.

Onyango joined Simba in the summer of 2020 on a free transfer following a memorable spell with record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia FC.

Onyango became a household name during the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament when most football fans particularly in Kenya and Tanzania questioned his age after Football Kenya Federation (FKF) posted the ages of Kenya’s contingent to Egypt on Twitter.

In response to the social media criticism, Onyango dyed his beard white leading to more trolls.
