Mexico’s recently unveiled 2022 FIFA World Cup away kit is not just an ordinary football jersey.

The away kit which has got many football fans taking has a number of symbols that represent the country’s modern culture and pre-colonial  memories.

The unique jersey has a walking stick that is being carried by Quetzalcoatl, a major deity in Mexican society. Quetzalcoatl is considered by Mexicans as the creator of humanity, and god of rain as well as winds.

Apart from the Quetzalcoatl, it also has a conch shell which represents a deity known as Tlahuizcalpantecuhtli.

The breath-taking top also has the popular white and red crest that is found in the Mexican flag as well as new fires. The latter symbolizes the cosmic cycles.

A spiral and a malinalli can also be seen in the jersey. The main purpose of the presence of a spiral in the top is to reflect those words that are based on poetry, song and truth.

A malinalli in Spanish culture is a grass that blossoms. It not only connects the universe through its roots but it also ascends to the cosmos.
