Faith Kipyegon Outstanding Performance in Monaco Wins Award

Faith Kipyegon’s performance at the Meeting Herculis event in Monaco has won the World Athletics August Moment of the month. 

Kipyegon set a world-leading time of 3:50.37in the 1,500m race on Wednesday, August 7, 2022, at the Herculis EBS in Monaco. 

Apart from setting the world lead she also recorded the second fastest time in history as well as the Kenyan group.

“Faith Kipyegon's world-leading 3:50.37 1500m victory at Meeting Herculis (the second fastest time in history) as August's Moment of the Month,” World Athletics statement read. 

Kipyego who is a two-time world and Olympic champion missed Genzebe Dibaba’s world record by 0.30 seconds. 

After her achievement in Monaco, the 28-year-old athlete noted that for the longest time she had been targeting to break the record. 

“I have been chasing the time for quite some time but I am happy with my personal best (PB). It seems I did not give all but I tried hard.  

“I knew it was the best place to get the world record, but I am so disappointed I lost it in the last metres. I am heading home now and want to get a good Diamond League final in Zurich,” Kipyegon noted previously. 

During her race, Kipyegon gave it her all as she attempted to beat the 3:50.07 record that was set in 2015.
