Goalkeeper Patrick Matasi is set to leave Ethiopian side St George FC at the end of the current season.
The Kenya international has told TeamKenya that he is not keen on renewing his stay in Ethiopia because of the frustrations he has had in the recent past at the club.
The 29-year-old joined St George from Tusker in 2018 and had a bright start to his Ethiopian career before things turned out for the worst in the latter stages of 2020.
“There have been so many changes at the club and this has really affected me as a player. A new goalkeeper coach came in and decided to keep me on the sidelines,” he said.
“I have maintained high levels of professionalism even after they refused to release me even after I requested so formally.”
“I have four months left on my contract and I feel that my life is far away from this place,” he told TeamKenya.
Matasi’s fate seem to have been sealed on January 5 2021 when he was red carded in the Sheger derby in which St George lost 3-2 to Ethiopia Coffee FC. He was then replaced by 33-year-old Zerihun Tedele who has maintained a starting slot in Frank Nuttall’s team.
“When Nuttall came in, he found a disjointed house he has tried putting things in order but I have been frustrated all along.”
Matasi has meanwhile disclosed that he has had several offers on the table but he fancies a move back home with Tusker top of his wish list.
“The FKF Premier League is on going and to be honest i would love to play for Tusker even on loan, i feel i have unfinished business with them. Simba have made contact too though we haven't had any formal talks with them,” he said.
St George started the League on a high but have slumped in form. They are currently third on the log, 18 points behind Fasil Kenema who top the table with 52 points.
