"His skill, crossing ability, positioning and athleticism mean he is as comfortable in midfield or in a back three as he is at wing-back or full-back, and having now committed to the club until 2028, Blues fans can enjoy James’s prodigious talent for much, much longer," read the club's statement.

The England defender had signed a new deal in 2020 which could have ended in 2025.

James revealed that he signed the novel deal because Chelsea is the only club in the world  that he would like to play for and thanked The Blues fans for the support that they have accorded him.

The 22-year-old made his debut for Chelsea three years ago and he has grown to become one of the best right-backs in the world.
