
Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has axed five players from United's dressing room to accommodate the club’s summer signings.
Long-serving central defender Phil Jones and Brandon Williams who shone last season while on loan at Norwich City are the biggest names among the five casualties.
Jones joined Manchester in July 2011 and has fallen out of favour with recent managers including Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Ralf Rangnick.
The Alex Ferguson signing has a contract with the Red Devils that expires on June 30, 2023.

Promising youth team graduates Shola Shoretire and Tegen Mendi will also not have a space at the Red Devils senior dressing room.
English defender Axel Tuanzebe is also affected by Ten Hag’s decision. The five axed players will now train with the under 23 players.
Manchester United signed a total of six first team players to boost its squad which performed dismally in the opening matches of the 2022/2023 season.

Ten Hag’s charges suffered two consecutive defeats in the hands of Brentford and Brighton and Hove Albion before returning back to winning ways.
Players who joined Manchester United in the recently closed transfer window include Christian Eriksen, Carlos Henrique Casimiro aka Casemiro, Tyrell Malacia, and Antony Matheus dos Santos.
Ten Hag also strengthened his defense with the acquisition of Argentine versatile defender Lisandro Martinez and Slovak shot stopper Martin Dubravka. The latter is on a season-long loan from Newcastle United.
The Red Devils are scheduled to play Premier League rivals Arsenal on September 4 at 1830hrs East African Time.
