Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made a return to the English Premier League on the transfer deadline day, a few months after signing a deal with Spanish giants FC Barcelona.

The Gabon international is set to join the 2019/2020 season UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea FC on a two-year contract with an extension option.

Barcelona and Chelsea agreed on the deal which saw Spanish defender Marcos Alonso join the former.

Aubameyang left Chelsea’s North London rivals Arsenal in January 2022 after falling out with the Gunners manager Mikel Arteta over discipline related issues.

The move will see the pacey forward reunite with his former tactician Thomas Tuchel. Aubameyang was Tuchel’s first choice striker during their time at Borussia Dortmund, netting 56 times during the two seasons in which they worked together.

Former Chelsea top scorer Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has backed Aubameyang to shine at Stamford Bridge stating that he has all the needed qualities.

“Aubameyang is somebody that can handle the pressure. He has played for big clubs like  Arsenal, Barcelona and Dortmund.

"I think if they are going to sign Aubameyang for the next couple of years, It is a great signing,” stated Hasselbaink.

Chelsea, which changed ownership earlier this year after the sanctioning of Roman Abramovich has signed several top-quality players during this summer transfer window.

The club strengthened its defence with players such as Wesley Fofana,  Kalidou Koulibaly, and Marc Cucurella.

The Blues also secured the services of England forward Raheem Sterling.

Chelsea will be depending on Aubameyang to turn their season around.

The North London-based club started their 2022/2023 campaign without a proven goalscorer after sending Romelu Lukaku on loan back to Inter Milan.
