
World Athletics President, Sebastian Coe, released the World Athletics Annual Report and Accounts for 2021.
In the report released on September 6, 2022, it was noted that the athletes' prize money for the 2022 and 2023 editions will be invested from the sanction fees from the RusAF suspension and reinstatement process.
According to Sebastian Coe, it was the collective contribution from everyone that saw athletics excel, putting it as the number one Olympic sport.

“I am proud of how we ended 2021 and knowing what we have accomplished at the half-way mark of 2022, I have never felt more confident about our sport and our ability to grow it substantially over the next few years. These are exciting times and our ambitions are high.
“My heartfelt thanks go to our athletes, our Member Federations, Area Associations, our HQ, our Council, Executive Board and all those who continue to inspire us and millions of participants in athletics across the world,” Sebastian Coe noted.
According to the report, the athletes’ prize money for the World Athletics Championships has been increased by Ksh120.3 million ($1 million).
Starting in 2025, the organizers of the World Athletics Championships organizers will be responsible for the Ksh961.9 million ($8 million) prize money required.
The reports also highlighted that the year, across all social media platforms, culminated in a 73% increase in followers, with TikTok contributing one million new followers, making World Athletics the number one followed TikTok account in the sport.
Further, the report indicated that the World Athletics’ social media fanbase rose to 7.1 million across the year and the website recorded 13 million users.
