The Zurich win completed Korir's hattrick of Diamond League trophies having won in 2018 and 2021.

“I didn’t expect the last few metres to be this tough. I was still behind in the last 200m. Maybe the first 600m were a bit slow,” Korir stated.

Korir’s fellow compatriot Wycliffe Kinyamal who was the Commonwealth Games 800m champion, finished fourth in 1:44.47.

In the 1,500m race, Timothy Cheruiyot was unable to win a trophy after finishing second to Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigsten who clocked 3:29.02.

Cheruiyot who is a four-time winner of the Diamond Trophy in the men's 1500m, was unable to lay hands on a fifth trophy after clocking a time of 3:30.27.

In the women's 1,500m race Ruth Chepng’etich showed her dominance on the track as she sealed her third Diamond League Trophy with a time of 4:00.44.

The 2022 1,500m World Champion was excited after having a strong finish with the season coming to a conclusion after recapturing her World title in July 2022 in Oregon, United States.
