With less than a day to their FKF Premier League fixture against Nzoia Sugar, AFC Leopards will have to do without three dependable players who have apparently stayed away from the club’s training sessions.
As reported by TeamKenya on Thursday, Clyde Senaji has been missing from the team for quite a while now and he is not responding to calls and texts desperately sent to him by team officials and the technical bench. Midfielder Marvin Nabwire and winger Jaffery Owiti are reportedly in Nigeria for trials with an unknown team.
“Marvin and Jaffery are in Nigeria attending trials with a certain unknown team,” a source privy to TeamKenya said.
“The two left the country a few days ago and never sought permission from the club.”
“Senaji on the hand hasn’t been picking calls and he has intimated to his colleagues that he wants a move out of the club.”
Club chairman Dan Shikanda equally shared his frustrations at how some of the players are behaving yet they are still chasing for the league title.
“We started the season strongly with every player showing commitment and zeal to win, it is unfortunate that some of them have decided to act contrary to their respective contracts.”
“A player like Senaji is very talented but sometimes he is misadvised. After earning his first call-up and debut to the national team (Harambee Stars), his head turned around and now he hasn’t been training.” Shikanda said.
“We know he has a few months left to his current deal (August 2021). We have tried getting him on the table for talks but it seems his head has turned elsewhere and it is not healthy for both the player and team at large,” he said.
“We know we have been having a few financial difficulties but that has not deterred us from trying our best to make the boys comfortable,” he quipped.
AFC Leopards coach Patrick Aussems who arrives in the country on Friday night has insisted that he has a good squad and will not bother convincing those absconding duty to come back into te playing unit.
