The Kenya Swimming Federation (KSF) officials are set to  meet representatives from the world swimming governing body (FINA) on Thursday, October 6, 2022 to discuss several issues.

According to a press release issued by the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK), the crucial meeting will be held in Nairobi.

“The National Olympic Committee of Kenya shall hold a swimming meeting to be addressed by the FINA representatives.

“The meeting shall be held on Thursday, the 6th October 2022, starting at 2:30pm at Stadion Hotel, Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani,” read a statement from NOCK.

The lifting of the ban imposed on the country after a lengthy suspension three years ago will be at the top of agendas to be discussed by representatives from both parties.

“The meeting will be an opportunity for FINA to address stakeholders in regards to the critical steps required towards the normalization of Kenyan swimming,” read part of the statement.

FINA slapped Kenya with a ban in May 2022 after the country failed to hold elections as required by its constitution.

The East African nation was initially suspended in 2019 after it failed to comply with international rules concerning elections.

Before being banned, KSF officials were given two opportunities in 2020 to put their house in order and conduct elections but wrangles within the federation undermined the process.

Due to the existing ban, Kenyan swimmers have been taking part in the events organized by FINA as neutrals.

Kenyan swimmers will be hoping that Thursday’s meeting bear fruits to allow them once again don the country’s colors with pride.
