Middlesbrough FC announced the sacking of former Aston Villa tactician Chris Wilder on Monday, October 3, 2022.

In a statement, the English Football League (EFL) Championship side thanked Wilder and his technical staff for the work they had done at the club for nearly a year.

“Middlesbrough Football Club have terminated the contract of manager Chris Wilder with immediate effect.

“The club would like to place on record its thanks to Chris and his staff for all their hard work over the past 11 months,” part of the statement from the club read.

The North Yorkshire-based side also announced that former goalkeeper coach Leo Percovich will take charge of the club as they look for a permanent replacement.

“Leo Percovich will take over first team affairs on an interim basis, assisted by Craig Liddle, Mark Tinkler and Lee Cattermole,” ended the statement.

Middlesbrough currently sit at position 22 in EFL Championship log, with 10 points from 11 league matches.

Boro, as they are commonly known, only picked a single win in their five last matches, with their latest defeat coming in the hands of Coventry City.

Wilder was sacked during the 2021/2022 season by Aston due to a number of poor performances. He was replaced by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

Elsewhere, Premier League side Wolves parted ways with head coach Bruno Lage on Sunday evening after their 2-0 defeat in the hands of West Ham United.
