Meru Bombers FC, a Division Two League club, has cried foul after Kinoru Stadium was hired for an entertainment event.

Reports indicate that renowned Nigerian artist Ruger is set to perform at the grounds on Saturday, October 8, in an event titled Walker Festival.

The hitmaker is famous for the song Girlfriend which has millions of views on YouTube and is shared widely on TikTok.

According to Meru Bombers, it was unfair that their match against Kitengela Sportiff was not allowed to take place at the stadium on grounds that it was still under construction, yet it was set to host a musical event.

In a letter drafted by their lawyer, Calvin Otieno, the club accused Sports Kenya of discriminating against sports activities and personalities in the area.

“On October 1, 2022, Meru Bombers with the express and oral permission of its officials proceeded to Kinoru Stadium for a scheduled league match against Kitengela Sportiff.

"However, Sports Kenya officials stopped and prohibited our client from using the stadium on the grounds that it is incomplete and therefore posed a health and safety risk to players and fans," an excerpt of the letter read.

“While this happened, Sports Kenya had at the same time hired out the stadium for a music event,” the letter added.

According to the letter it was highlighted that the footballers wanted the music event cancelled until the stadium was open to all.

The lawyer also cited that the event will be hosted on the ground under construction, posing a risk to the attendees.

They thus demanded that the stadium be handed over to Meru County, its rightful owner.

Meru Bombers threatened to file a lawsuit in court if their demands will not have been met by Thursday, October 6.
