“It is always great to know that you are going to play in the Champions League final. The preparation is always like no other. You try to be in shape and to be the best you can ever be.
“It is not easy as you also have some happiness in you and you are required to perform, you must be in the right space of mind to perform well,” Wanyama noted
Wanyama also added that their two-leg semifinal match against Manchester City in the Champions League was the toughest match during their 2019 campaign.
The 31-year-old midfielder noted that after progressing to the finals they had the confidence that they would do something great. The former Harambee Stars skipper noted that the atmosphere during the final against Liverpool was cool despite the loss.
Wanyama also added that his team suffered a loss as they did not follow the game plan that had been laid down by the then-manager Mauricio Pochettino.
"It was really tough as we did not do what was required. It was a tough time as it did not go our way but that’s football you have a winner and loser,” Wanyama noted.
On having Jose Mourinho as manager, Wanyama noted that his relationship with the Portuguese manager was not clear as they did not spend much time together.
“My time with him (Mourinho) I can describe it as mixed reaction as he came at a time when I was injured and it was difficult for him to know the squad. I had also decided to leave Tottenham by the time he came,” Wanyama added.
