Bunge FC, a team that comprises of Kenyan legislators from both the National Assembly and Senate has been making headlines in the past few years.
However, despite guiding the team to the East African Inter-Parliamentary Games triumph recently, little is known about Bunge FC head coach George Sunguti.
TeamKenya.co.ke looks at Sunguti’s journey from Nairobi’s lower leagues to the helm of one of the most lucrative jobs in Kenyan football.

Sunguti joined AFC Leopards in the early 1990s - he was part of the Ingwe team that was assembled by Reuben Malola, a Malawian international.
Some of his teammates at AFC Leopards then included former Harambee Stars captain Musa Otieno, Tom Juma, Kevin Ateku and Wycliffe Jumba.
One-time Kenya Premier League top scorer Fred Ambani, the late John Luchuku and Edward Karanja were also part of the youthful squad.
Apart from playing for AFC Leopards, he also had a spell with Kenya Premier League record winners Gor Mahia FC.
Singuti made his debut for the Kenyan national team in the early 1990s and was part of the Harambee Stars squad that graced the 1992 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament staged in Dakar, Senegal.
Between the early 1990s and 2004, he made eight appearances for Harambee Stars before hanging his boots.
His younger brother Maurice Sunguti also played for several Kenyan clubs, including AFC Leopards, Tusker and Nairobi Stima, and Harambee stars. The talented forward also had short stints with Ugandan, Tanzanian and Swedish sides.
Some of the legislators Sunguti coaches at Bunge FC include senate major leader Aaron Cheruiyot, Peter Salasya, Dan Wanyama, Mohammed Ali and Otiende Amollo.
Cheruiyot recently replaced Kipchumba Murkomen as the team’s captain after the latter’s nomination for the cabinet secretary for Roads, Transport and Public Works post.
George guided Bunge FC to the East African title in December 2021 thanks to a narrow 1-0 win over the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) side.
Murkomen’s lone goal was enough to hand the Kenyan politicians victory.
Bunge FC was the brainchild of the late President of Kenya, Daniel Torotich Arap Moi, who was an avid football fan.
