The Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced days for national prayers and fasting on Thursday, October 20, 2022 as their national men’s team gears up for the FIFA World Cup which kicks off in Qatar in a month's time.

According to the notice seen by TeamKenya.co.ke, the national day for prayers and fasting for the Muslim has been scheduled for Friday, October 21.

Their Christian counterparts are expected to fast and pray on Sunday, October 23.

The move by the GFA has sparked mixed reactions among Black Stars fans online.

Some of them stated that the move would not help Ghana post impressive results at the tournaments if players do not give their all.

"Pope is in Italy but Italy did not qualify for the world cup. This is not a prayer matter. Just go and play better football," read a comment from one of the supporters.

Some argued that other countries do not organize national fasting and prayer days but still register better performances than Ghana.

"European teams or South American countries participating in the mundial won’t organize any fasting and prayer but they will perform exceptionally and win," another fan stated.

Ghana, who narrowly overcame their arch-rivals Nigeria to qualify for this year’s world cup have been pooled in group H.

The Otto Addo coached side will open their campaign against former European champions Portugal on November 24, before playing Korea Republic four days later.

Their final group match will be against Uruguay, who denied them a chance of becoming the first African country to reach the semifinals of the competition at the 2010 edition held in South Africa.
